Proteus to be completed May 2016

Proteus will track the movement and daialy relations of a young woman as she begins to speculate whether or not there is somehting greater than what is evident. Her uncertainties manifest in the form of an anthropomorphic bird. Unaware that the bird is another side of herself, she begins to acknowledge it as a setient being. In doing so, she activates visions that she is unable to discern from the real world. As the young woman grapples with reality and figments of her imagination, she begins to accept the bird as part of herself, while simultaneously realizing it mat be a part of the problem.

The bird, greatly resembling the Venus of Willendorf, has a bird skull in place of a cranium, candidly pulling the bonds between vivacity and mortality. The bond between fertility and 'the end' creates a parallel to memory and its ability to vanish in the blink of an eye. Loss will be explored through vignettes that are seemingly misplaced in the narrative as well as abstract imagery, investigating the confusion between reality and the artificial.
